sunscreen
A sunscreen for the face is an indispensable product in daily care. The skin on your face is exposed to UV radiation every day, even on dark, cloudy days and in winter. In summer, it is important to apply regular sunscreen to the parts of your body that are exposed to the sun. You don't need to do this if the skin is covered by clothing. Not using sunscreen can cause premature skin ageing, sunburn, hyperpigmentation or even skin cancer.
The best sunscreen
The best sunscreen is different for everyone. If you have fair skin that always burns, skin that almost always burns or skin that burns sometimes, we recommend an SPF50. If you do not burn so easily or almost never, an SPF30 or even lower is sufficient to protect your skin. Do you like a spray or do you prefer a cream variant? We have a diverse range of sunscreens. Children's skin is very vulnerable to the sun. When applying sunscreen to children, use at least an SPF 30 and apply every 2 hours. Do not be too economical with the product. It is also important for children to wear a hat and sunglasses. Protect children well from harmful UV rays. Our runners-up are the Naïf Baby & Kids Sunscreen SPF30 and the Naïf Baby & Kids Sunscreen SPF50.
Different types of SPF
There are different Sun Protection Factor in sunscreen. For instance, there are SPF 15, 20, 30 & 50, the most commonly chosen being the 30 & 50. But what is the difference between these? SPF30 provides 97% protection for the skin. SPF50 offers 98% protection. So it is a minimal difference, but the SPF50 protects the skin for a longer time.
Using sunscreen
You apply sunscreen after your day cream and leave it on for a while. In summer, when exposed to the sun during the day, use sunscreen regularly. One layer is unfortunately not enough, apply every two hours to make sure your skin has good protection. Your face and neck are exposed to the sun every day, so apply a good SPF here every day. Apply sunscreen to the parts of your body that are exposed to the sun and repeat this every 2 hours too. sunscreen is of course used more regularly in summer, in winter it is only enough to apply it to your face. Cover the rest of your skin with wonderfully warm clothes.
Frequently asked questions
Which sunscreen is best?
The best sunscreen depends on your skin type and activities. For everyday use, a light, non-greasy formula is fine. Going swimming? Then choose a water-resistant one. Try different brands and see what feels best!
How long does sunscreen last?
Most sunscreens have a shelf life of about 12 months after opening. Check the packaging for a jar with a number and 'M'. But if the consistency or smell changes, it's time to throw it away.
Which factor sunscreen is best?
The factor, or SPF, depends on your skin type and how fast you burn. Lighter skin types need a higher SPF. But for most, SPF 30 or 50 is perfect for daily use.
What is the best sunscreen?
There is no one 'best' sunburn. It depends on your needs. Look for one that absorbs quickly, suits your skin type and provides the protection you want. Read reviews, but also just try out different brands to see what suits you.
How long does sunscreen work?
Sunscreen usually works for 2-3 hours. But if you sweat or swim, you need to reapply more often. You should also reapply after drying off with a towel.
What does the factor stand for in sunburns?
The factor, or SPF, indicates how much longer you can stay in the sun without burning compared to unprotected skin. For example, SPF 30 means you can stay in the sun 30 times longer than without sunscreen.
How often should you apply sunscreen?
Every 2 to 3 hours is a good rule. But after swimming, exercising or drying off, it is best to reapply immediately. Better too often than too little, right?
How long should sunscreen stay on?
Give your sunscreen about 15 to 30 minutes to soak in before going out in the sun. That way you can be sure of the best protection!
